Improving Turbo Diesel Performance Through ECU Remapping
Modern turbo diesel engines are controlled by sophisticated ECU software that manages torque, boost pressure, fuel delivery and many other engine parameters. ECU remapping allows these settings to be carefully recalibrated to improve power, torque, drivability and, in suitable applications, fuel efficiency.
What is ECU Remapping?
ECU remapping involves modifying selected parameters within the vehicle's original engine management software.
Depending on the engine and ECU, these may include:
- Turbo Boost – Optimising boost pressure and turbocharger control
- Fuel Delivery – Adjusting injection quantity and duration
- Fuel Pressure – Optimising rail pressure where appropriate
- Injection Timing – Refining the timing of fuel injection
- Torque Limiters – Recalibrating factory torque restrictions
- Throttle Response – Improving response to driver input
These parameters work together, so a good calibration is about achieving the correct balance rather than simply increasing individual values.
